PSR Preseason Top 25

1. Oklahoma - The Sooners flew under the radar last season but a stifling defense and a healthy Adrian Peterson will prevent that from happening again.

2. Auburn - The returning offensive trio of Kenny Irons, Brandon Cox and Courtney Taylor will help the Tigers forget their Capitol One Bowl loss last season.

3. Ohio State - Troy Smith and Teddy Ginn Jr. return on offense and the defense seems to have the depth to replace the nine starters that moved on.

4. WVU - Playing in the Big East gives them a legitimate shot at being 12-0. But one loss sends them out of National Championship contention.

5. USC - When you produce NFL talent at the rate the Trojans do, it's hard to doubt that they have players ready to step up.

6. Texas - No Vince Young means no top five. But a highly ranked recruiting class ready to contribute keeps the Longhorns in the top 10.

7. Florida - If second year coach Urban Meyer's offense catches on, this team-and QB Chris Leak-could explode.

8. LSU - With three star quarterbacks fighting for the job, the race under center is more of an exclamation mark instead of a question mark.

9. Louisville - The Cardinals boast a talented offense led by Brian Brohm and Michael Bush that could give the Mountaineers a run for their money in the Big East.

10. Notre Dame - Brady Quinn and Jeff Samardzija return to form one of the top QB-WR tandems in the country

11. Florida State - The Noles have a tough opener against Miami but the defense should keep them in it throughout the season.

12. Georgia - The RB tandem of Thomas Brown and Danny Ware will help take the focus off the new QB and offensive line.

13. Miami - Have the Hurricanes had a leader at QB since Ken Dorsey?

14. Michigan - Road games against Notre Dame, Penn State and Ohio State will slow down the Wolverines and keep them out of the top 10.

15. California - Is Steve Levy the real deal at QB? They will need him to be consistent to get them through a tough schedule.

16. Virginia Tech - Surprisingly, replacing QB Marcus Vick will be difficult. But the talent on both sides of the ball is there to compete for the ACC title.

17. Iowa - Could contend for the Big Ten title with Ohio State.

18. Oregon - The two-headed QB situation is never easy, but having one of the best O-Line's in the country shouldn't hurt.

19. Tennessee - Coming of a bust of a season where they went 5-6, the Vols hired a new offensive coordinator with hopes of straightening out the sloppy O.

20. Utah - The Utes are on their way to rebuilding a team like the Fiesta Bowl champs they had two years ago.

21. Clemson - The young defense has gained another year of experience and the Tigers could compete for the ACC title.

22. Georgia Tech - The embarrasing loss in the Emerald Bowl last season hasn't sat well with the Yellow Jackets' offense, motivating them to improve their 19 pts/g from last year.

23. Penn State - The only thing that keeps them out of the top 20 is the question mark at quarterback.

24. Boston College - A tough team on defense but has something to prove on offense.

25. Navy - This isn't your fathers Midshipmen. OK, maybe it is, but the throwback offense has Navy boasting one of the best running games in the nation.
