West Virginia head coach John Beilein has one word for this upcoming season: different.

"I haven't had many new members since my first year here," Beilein said. "It is going to be different."

After a remarkable two-year run that included a Sweet 16, an Elite 8 and an appearance in the Big East title game, there will be a brand new look in Morgantown. This year's squad is dominated by seven freshmen and only five returning letter winners, just two seniors, and no set starting lineup.

"We are counting on the veterans to start, but we are trying to see where the best place is for our players," Beilein said.

The Mountaineers will lean heavily on senior forward Frank Young, the only returning starter. The versatile Young is embracing the fact that he is the leader.

"I have taken the leadership role with eagerness and enthusiasm," Young said. "The freshmen are really coming along well and I think they are listening to me. I try to be a vocal leader out there and speak up during practice."

Young also believes that even after losing All-American Kevin Pittsnoggle and All Big East guard Mike Gansey, this year's team may be more athletic.

Even so, Young knows there will likely be tough times over the long season.

"Work hard and if we have any adversity I'll remind the guys it's a long season," he said. "I can't let the players get down; it's a marathon not a sprint."
