NFL Power Rankings
By Jonathan Staub
1)
Indianapolis Colts
Now that Peyton Manning has figured out how to beat the Pats,
we can safely call him one of the best ever - and he is still
in the middle of his prime. Scary thought.
2) New England Patriots
Randy Moss, Adalius Thomas, Donte Stallworth, Wes Welker. Great
additions. AFC Championship game bound if they don't implode.
3) San Diego Chargers
They had a video game type season last year. They won't duplicate
what they did but they will be very good.
4) New Orleans Saints
A strong Brees will only help feed Hurricane Bush and this team
got stronger from last season. If (HUGE if) they can stop the
run they will find themselves in Super Bowl XLII.
5) Chicago Bears
Criticize all you want, but in his first full season Rex Grossman
led the Bears to the Super Bowl. Fans and media alike continually
overlook that?
6) Philadelphia Eagles
When McNabb is healthy this team is NFC Championship Game material.
Here's assuming he'll be healthy this year.
7) Denver Broncos
A very good off-season, with several key additions, will make
them even better. Never doubt Mike Shanahan.
8) Baltimore Ravens
If Willis McGahee stays healthy, watch out.
9) Pittsburgh Steelers
New coach, new attitude, healthy QB. Don't forget that this
team is less than two years removed from a Super Bowl title.
10) Dallas Cowboys
Tony Romo will lead an overall solid team in a weak conference.
Beware the Boys.
11) Tennessee Titans
Vince Young is a Michael Vick that can throw. He's already showed
last year that he knows how to win.
12) N.Y. Jets
Thomas Jones may turn out to be the best off-season move of
the year. This team will surprise a lot of people.
13) N.Y. Giants
Brandon Jacobs = high risk, high reward. Eli has shown he can
hold his own, but Jacobs is the key to success this year.
14) San Francisco Forty-Niners
A weak division will keep them stay in the playoff hunt all
year. Alex Smith will only get better. This could be a team to
watch.
15) Carolina Panthers
Consistent paper contenders who never perform up to their talent.
That said, they still do have a lot of talent.
16) Cincinnati Bengals
If their starting line-up can stay out of jail-and they decide
not to choke-they could be a dangerous team come January.
17) Arizona Cardinals
If Matt Leinart puts it together this team has all the tools
to go a long way. It still may be too soon yet.
18) St. Louis Rams
They may have the most productive running back in the league
this year, but their offense isn't the question.
19) Jacksonville Jaguars
Once a very dangerous team, they have faded quite a bit. It
doesn't help that their running game has gotten worse and their
QB and coach have issues.
20) Buffalo Bills
They are young, but the season will ride or die with J.P. Losman.
21) Seattle Seahawks
If Shaun Alexander is healthy this team could rise to the top
of the NFC again. Otherwise forget them.
22) Kansas City Chiefs
They have major questions at QB, but fortunately for them they
can ride Larry Johnson a long way.
23) Green Bay Packers
Like funnyman Frank Caliando says, "If Brett Favre had no arms
and no legs he'd still be the best torso in football." But Aaron
Rogers is more than ready to take over.
24) Minnesota Vikings
Tavaris Jackson and Adrian Peterson could make this one of the
best offenses in the NFC, just probably not in 2008.
25) Atlanta Falcons
Bobby Petrino was going to bring to them an NF Championship.
Now they go into the season with Joey Harrington as their starter.
26) Tampa Bay Buccaneers
By the time you get done counting all their quarterbacks you
will fall asleep and forget that they have holes everywhere else
to fill.
27) Detroit Lions
They have the potential to score 40 points a game. Unfortunately
they also have the potential to give up 45 points a game.
28) Miami Dolphins
Trent Green will have a lot on his shoulders, but he's no young
man anymore and if he goes down the Dolphins go with him.
29) Houston Texans
Matt Schaub make this team far better than anticipated. This
will be his first season though, and he still has no offensive
line however.
30) Washington Redskins
Tough division, unproven quarterback and holes on defense equals
another long season for Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs.
31) Cleveland Browns
After a great draft, the future looks bright. But unfortunately
for them, they have 16 games to play right now.
32) Oakland Raiders
With the acquisition of Daunte Culpepper the Raiders are now
only 21 starting players away from looking like an NFL team. |
