Major League Baseball
Power Rankings

1…Detroit Tigers
Adding Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis makes Jim Leyland's team a true powerhouse.

2…Los Angeles Angels
Deep and talented team with no real weakness, and a heck of a skipper in Mike Scioscia.

3…Boston Red Sox
Defending World Champs are still a force, but repeating is a tall task for any club nowadays.

4…Philadelphia Phillies
Scary line-up and solid starting rotation. Closer Brad Lidge is really the only question mark.

5…New York Mets
Acquiring Johan Santana helps ease the pain of last September's monumental collapse.

6…New York Yankees
Uncharacteristically quiet this off-season, but plenty of talent here for manager Joe Girardi.

7…Cleveland Indians
C.C. Sabathia and Fausto Carmona are excellent one-two hammers at the top of the rotation.

8…Colorado Rockies
Not as awesome as they appeared during their run to the World Series, but pretty darn good.

9…Seattle Mariners
Additions made over the past few years finally begin to pay off. M's are now a solid contender.

10…Arizona Diamondbacks
Stable of young talent and the addition of pitcher Dan Haren make this club a playoff contender.

11…Chicago Cubs
Japanese batting champion Kosuke Fukudome is an intriguing addition to an already solid ballclub.

12…San Diego Padres
With Jake Peavy, Chris Young and Greg Maddux in the rotation, run of winning seasons continues.

13…Milwaukee Brewers
Should be in thick of N.L. Central race again - especially if Eric Gagne can successfully close games.

14…Los Angeles Dodgers
After 12 straight playoffs appearances in The Bronx, Joe Torre might be vacationing in October.

15…Houston Astros
Additions of shortstop Miguel Tejada and closer Jose Valverde make the Astros a bit better.

16…Toronto Blue Jays
Respectable unit as usual, but not good enough to challenge the Red Sox and Yankees though.

17…Chicago White Sox
There's still talent here, but the Sox have underachieved since winning the World Series in 2005.

18…Atlanta Braves
Andruw Jones no longer patrolling center field is a huge change. Braves' pitchers will miss him.

19…St. Louis Cardinals
Wobbling in the wrong direction after winning the World Series just two short years ago.

20…Minnesota Twins
Losing Torii Hunter and Johan Santana has to be incredibly deflating for this club and its fans.

21…Texas Rangers
Capable of scoring runs in bunches and they'll have to because the pitching is dreadful.

22…Cincinnati Reds
Dusty Baker takes over as the new skipper and the addition of closer Francisco Cordero will help.

23…Tampa Bay Rays
Exciting young talent on hand could push them toward their first winning season ever.

24…Pittsburgh Pirates
Believe they underachieved big time in 2007, and are ready to start climbing in 2008.

25…Kansas City Royals
Very young and so in need of power that they signed enigmatic slugger Jose Guillen.

26…San Francisco Giants
Life without Barry Bonds begins. Better-than-average starting rotation is the only saving grace.

27…Washington Nationals
Odd team with an Oakland Raiders' feel. Infatuated with other teams' prospects and cast-offs.

28…Oakland A's
Bold GM Billy Beane traded away his top pitcher (Dan Haren) and top position player (Nick Swisher).

29…Florida Marlins
Franchise known for its peaks and valleys is in a down cycle. Sorting things out could take awhile.

30…Baltimore Orioles
Trading Eric Bedard makes the starting rotation a disaster, and the offense isn't much better.
